Every time I see the countryside in Marathwada, my mind keeps asking this question as to why this region is lagging behind in development after being Political-Cultural hub of Maharashtra, if not India for at least 1500 years? History of Maharashtra does not begin and should not end with Shivaji

Imagine Shivaji Maharaj riding on horse with his soldiers. And, now imagine Mahatma Gandhi picking up fistful of salt to break the salt act. I am sure for most of you first image will be 'Colorful' and later will 'Black and White', that is the impact school textbooks studied in our childhood have on us..!! We in Maharasht ra are being taught Medieval History as history of Shivaji. All other events and persons are defined with reference to him. Ask any Maharashtrian boy studying in say, 9th standard "Who were the Mughals?" and he would say "Enemies of Shivaji" that is he will define Mughals with reference to Shivaji. Without realizing that Mughals have been there since 1526 that is 100 years before the birth of Shivaji. Similarly ask "Who was Ramdas?" in present Maharashtra answer will depend 'Caste' of the boy but he will surely define Ramdas in terms of and with reference to Shivaji. Prayas Experience

Prayas was really a wonderful and memorable experience to me this was first time I participated in any such activity. I went there on 30 th Jan at 9.30 pm one day late as there was an exam of my own on same day I took the exam and reached there hastily. Next day my Group that is Jangira was supposed to do all activities like making of breakfast, lunch and serving it. I was supposed to tell information about Jangira fort while breakfast. So even though I was tired from Exam and journey I studied for that short speech and slept at 2 am to wake up at 4 am but I could not take bath as there were many visitors to the temple (Siddhtek) on that night and they were taking bath so directly went Bhombora 5 km away from Siddhtek on bikes and helped in making breakfast told about Jangira during breakfast and distributed lunch (Bhaat) to volunteers who went to different schools.
